In some of first public comments since news broke of irregularities in the 9th Congressional District election, Republican Mark Harris said he would “wholeheartedly support” a new election if there’s evidence of criminal activity.

The statement is a stark change in tone from his campaigns initial reaction, which urged the State Board of Elections to immediately certify the results of his race, which initially showed him winning by 905 votes over Democrat Dan McCready.

In a video posted to Twitter, Harris says: “I trust the process that’s underway.” He also says he was “absolutely unaware” of any wrongdoing.
